Maine Survivors Remember the Holocaust
"We were slowly conditioned into the role of victim. We were the ones that were hunted. We looked it and we acted it. We didn't even need that yellow star on our left chest, the fear in our eyes gave us away," explained Gerda Haas, Holocaust Survivor, in Maine Survivors Remember the Holocaust. Between 1933 and 1945 the Nazis systematically isolated, degraded, and then murdered the Jews of Europe, eventually killing approximately six million. The complexity and horror of the Holocaust made it an especially difficult subject to comprehend. Maine Survivors Remember the Holocaust offers a clear compelling introduction to the Holocaust for general audiences. Interviews with eight Maine survivors and an American liberator, interwoven with dramatic archival films, photographs, maps and music, propel the viewer through the tragic history. The personal stories of eyewitnesses demonstrate convincingly how the Holocaust affected individuals.
