Lawrence Alan Spiegel Remebrance Scholarship Guidelines
Who is eligible to apply? Any high school senior or home schooler who is a resident of Maine and who has been accepted at any accredited college, university or technical school that is Title IV eligible.
Scholarship amount: $1000.00
How are the scholarships awarded? Students must write an essay, which is read by a panel of judges. Scholarships are not renewable.
Application process: Applicants must write an essay on "Why is it important that the remembrance, history and lessons of the Holocaust be passed to a new generation?" The essay is not to exceed four pages, double-spaced, and be typed or computer generated.
When can I apply for this scholarship? On or after January 1st of the award year.
What is the application deadline? The completed application must be postmarked by March 31st of the award year.
Requirements for presentation of essay:
- a self-addressed stamped envelope (#10)
- a completed application
When will the scholarship be announced? The scholarship will be announced at the annual meeting of the Holocaust and Human Rights Center of Maine and at an appropriate event at the student's school.
When will the scholarship be awarded? The scholarship will be awarded after the student shows successful completion of the first semester at college.
