Scholarships and Awards
Lawrence Alan Spiegel Remembrance Scholarship
The Holocaust and Human Rights Center of Maine is pleased to offer this $1000 scholarship. Any high school senior or home schooler who is a resident of Maine and who has been accepted at any accredited college, university or technical school that is Title IV eligible can apply. Applicants must write an essay, which is read by a panel of judges.
Outstanding Student of the Year Award
The Outstanding Student of the Year Award recognizes a student who has written an extraordinarily effective piece of literature, either fiction or non-fiction, or who has created an unusually expressive piece of visual or performance art relating to the Holocaust and/or issues of human rights. Awards will be given for grades K-4, 5-8, and 9-12.
Take a Stand Award
The Take A Stand Award recognizes a Maine citizen of any age who, at considerable personal risk, takes a public stand against a situation, person, or action in which another person's rights or personal integrity were being denied.
Holocaust Educator of the Year Award
The Holocaust and Human Rights Center of Maine gives public recognition to certain people in Maine who. in extraordinary ways, promote education and awareness about the Holocaust and issues of human rights. This award recognizes an educator in Maine who has been especially innovative in furthering education about the Holocaust and/or issues of human rights.
