The HHRC has produced three literature-based resource guides The Spirit That Moves Us for grades K-4, 5-8 and 9-12 and a documentary video, Maine Survivors Remember the Holocaust.

Each resource guide offers age-appropriate strategies and lesson plans for teaching students about the fundamental causes of human rights violations and an awareness of ongoing social issues.  Each guide can be used as a curriculum itself, or individual lesson plans can be used as they fit within an existing curriculum.  Complete, annotated bibliographies include both print and non-print resources, and appendices include articles for teachers and helpful information on locating further resources.

Guides are distributed at no cost to Maine schools.  To determine if your school has received its guide(s) call 207-621-3530 or email infohhrc@maine.edu

The documentary video Maine Survivors Remember the Holocaust offers a clear and compelling introduction to the Holocaust for general audiences. Interviews with eight Maine survivors and an American liberator are interwoven with dramatic archival films, photographs, maps, and music. This film is designed for a single classroom period and is appropriate for middle school and high school students.
